The Skin care routine you need

Something I have been doing for a while that I wish I started doing earlier is double cleansing. It is now an essential part of my evening skin care and make up removal routine. When I am consistent with these steps, my skin clears up fast and always leaves me feeling refreshed.

I will now go through my usual routine starting with make up removal:

Step 1: Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes

I start by gently wiping my face over with Simple's make up wipes to remove the main chunk of cosmetics from my face. The wipes are very soft and hydrating - ideal if you have sensitive skin like me. Be careful under the eyes though because it can sting if you go over that area too many times. Remarkably, many people stop there. Surely you've wiped off all of your make-up now, right? Wrong.

Step 2: Witch Hazel and Cotton Wool

Grabbing one piece of cotton wool, I pour a little Witch Hazel onto it before wiping my whole face again. You will surprise yourself with the amount of excess make up that comes off onto the cotton wool. Witch Hazel helps to mend broken skin, fight bacteria and soothe any minor irritations. After application, my skin feels super clean.

A cheap bottle of Witch Hazel is available from Wilko for a measly £1.95, a bargain considering it is multi-purpose!

Step 3: No.7 Gentle Cleanser and Cotton Wool

You may want to tie your hair back for this one! I, thirdly, take another piece of cotton wool and apply a few squirts of No.7's Soft and Soothed Gentle Cleanser before wiping around my face again. Once I have covered all areas on my face, I splash warm water over my face and then cold. I do this because the warm water opens all of your pores, allowing the cleanser to wash your skin. The cold water, essentially, does the opposite and closes your pores afterwards! This is to prevent dirt getting back into your skin and causing blackheads.

No.7 Soft and Soothed Gentle Cleanser can be found at Boots costing £8. I would say that it is worth the money as it is a both a huge bottle and a pump, which lasts you a very long time.

Step 4 (Optional): Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Peel Off Face Mask

I put this step in as optional because I do this on a weekly basis as opposed to daily. After noticing Boots Tea Tree range, I just had to try this face mask out! It contains both Witch Hazel and Tea Tree oil, which work together to effectively remove blackheads and tighten your pores to prevent further breakouts. You only need to layer 1mm of the substance on your face and wait 10-15 mins for the mask to harden.

I usually take time here to read a book or catch up on my favourite blogs to help myself relax but, of course, everyone has their own way of winding down!

You will know when the mask is working on your skin because your face will feel tight; your skin will feel cooler and slightly tingly. Next is the fun part: check that your face mask is dried everywhere and then peel it off! Your skin will feel extra soft when you're done.

You can purchase Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Peel Off Face Mask for £2.99, which is great value because you can get a lot of uses out of it!

Step 5: Simple Light Moisturiser

You can probably tell that I am a huge fan of Simple products! I have been using Simple's Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser for many years now and I still swear by it. I squirt some onto my finger and dab on my nose, both cheekbones, chin and forehead and rub the rest into my hands. This way, I ensure I don't apply too much, which can make your skin feel very greasy.

The Simple Kind To Skin Light Moisturiser is currently on offer at Boots for £2.14 (half price) so grab one whilst you can!

Step 6: Body Lotion

This is an additional step I decided to add for after you have showered. I recommend applying the Vaseline Essential Moisture Clean Feeling Lotion if you have more sensitive skin and you want it to be fragrance free.

Alternatively, I would highly recommend Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Pump Body Lotion as it smells good enough to eat! There is, however, a fragrance free version available (which I accidentally picked up much to my disappointment because I live for the smell). This lotion is definitely thicker in substance so, if you prefer to feel light and cool, opt for Vaseline.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Pump Body Lotion sells for £4.50 at Boots, whilst Vaseline Essential Moisture Clean Feeling Lotion is the cheaper alternative at £3.65.

Do you include any of these products in your skin care routine or are there any not listed here you would recommend? Let me know in the comments!

  4. Yes! I just recently ordered my witch hazel and haven't used it enough yet so will definitely get back to using it. Will definitely look into checking the no 7 product as I'm certain I've tried all the others and love them already!

  5. I wish I could use Simple skincare but it doesn't agree with my skin, I tend to use my soap and glory foam cleanser then use micellar wipes just to remove any makeup I've missed.

  6. I always lovelovelove skincare posts! It's so interesting to see other peoples' routines and the products that they like. I have a sample pack of the Simple Micellar Wipes, but I can't convince myself to use them since I'm a die hard Neutrogena fan. Maybe I should give them a try. Great post <3

  9. You've got such a good routine going on! I normally go for a single cleanse with a hot cloth cleanser, but will think of doing a double cleanse on some days. I used to use Simple products but now that my skin is more dry, I go in with the Superdrug serums and pair them with whichever moisturiser I'm using at the moment :) x

  19. I really enjoy the formula of the Palmers Cocoa Butter, but have stopped buying it because of the packaging. I found that the pump wasn't able to get the last 1/6th or so of the product out of the bottle so I ended up having to cut through the packaging. I tried switching to the squeeze bottle, but found that too difficult to squeeze. Such a shame, because I really enjoy the product. Xx
